Hi friends! Now that I have a daughter in kindergarten, packing school lunches has become a third job for my husband and me. (Parent job, Paying job, Lunch packer) Two months into school, I’ve learned a few things: She likes to pack her own lunch #win, she is picky about lunches (eye rolling emoji), and it has to be foods I KNOW she’ll eat. Otherwise, the poor teacher will have a hangry 5 year old on her hands.
I’m no expert in nutrition, but I try to offer plenty of fruits, a veggie, a protein, a dairy, and a grain. Why plenty of fruits? Because fruits and vegetables are the most important things, to me. Right now, eating tons of veggies just isn’t happening. So, I settle for a vegetable and plenty of fruit. Some will argue that it’s too much sugar. I’m not worried about naturally sweet foods. We try to have added sugar in moderation.

We typically have juice as a special treat. She won’t find a Capri Sun® in her lunch daily, but it’s a nice, occasional surprise for her. What I love about Capri Sun® Organic (found in your local Walmart store!) is that it doesn’t have added sugar, it’s only sweetened with fruit juice, and there are NO artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives.
An organic juice that can still serve as a special treat to my kids? Sign me up!
What do you pack for your kids’ lunches? Which food groups do you value the most? Do you add in a special treat? Hope over to this post on Instagram to join the conversation!
Thanks for letting me share!
