When my husband and I go to sleep each night, one of the things that makes us the most excited (besides the actual sleep) is that we get to wake up and drink coffee. That’s how much we love it. We both drink it straight up, black. It’s my favorite beverage, outside of water.

So naturally, we were thrilled to try Mash-Up Organic Coffee. It’s available in a few different varieties at Walmart (and Sam’s Club!) in whole bean or ground. Mash-Up is “Craftfully blending two or more single origins to create one delicious coffee.”

Today, I brewed a small French Press pot of the Sumatra + Peru Mash-Up for my husband’s afternoon coffee. Here’s the recommended process:

  • Use 14g (about 2 tbsp) of coffee (coarse grind, like sea salt) per 8 oz of water
  • Bring filtered water to a boil
  • Remove plunger from the beaker
  • Pour coffee in the bottom of the beaker, using the ratios above
  • Slowly pour 200 degree (F) water over the grounds until the beaker is 1/4 full. Stir. (This stir is key, in my opinion.)
  • Add remaining water and place the lid (with plunger) onto the beaker
  • Let stand for 4 min.
  • Plunge or press the filter down, pour, sip, enjoy

This cup of coffee was delicious! This variety has chocolate and floral notes. YUM!

One of the best things about Mash-Up coffee is that you get to do good with every purchase.

“Mash-Up Coffee supports both social and economic sustainability and philanthropy through The School That Coffee Built program. Every bag of Peruvian coffee—including Peru + Colombia + Honduras (Sam’s Club)—and Sumatra + Peru (Walmart) helps to fund philanthropic projects in the communities in which Boyer’s sources its beans. The first school has already been completed in the Peruvian farming community of Primero de Mayo, and a second school project has also been completed in Agua Azul, Peru. Coffee enthusiasts are encouraged to track the school’s progress at TheSchoolThatCoffeeBuilt.com.”

So pick up a bag of Mash-Up on your next Walmart or Sam’s Club run. You’ll be so glad you did!
