About a year and a half ago, I reunited myself with my former love of reading. I haven’t looked back. I read 50 books in 2021, and I’m on book 31 for 2022, so far. I didn’t grow up loving to read, but I did come to love devouring books in adulthood, once I found the types of books that I liked… loved.
If you missed my last book recommendations, you can find them here. Thankfully, this job is flexible, so I can sneak away to read a book for bits of time. It’s hands down my favorite hobby. I mostly read for pleasure, but I’ll add in a few nonfiction or memoirs here and there as the topic speaks to me.
This year I started a book club. It’s been the best time- about eight of us sit around once a month chatting through a book we all read, yes, but also just about life- it has been such gift to me. 10/10 highly recommend starting one of your own!

American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins
American Dirt was select as an Oprah’s Book Club book and is a gut-wrenching story of how life can change in an instant, and does for a mother and her son in Mexico. If you’ve ever to struggled to understand or have grace for why people would come to America illegally, this is a must read. It sheds so much light on the hardships faced by so many that don’t live in our free country. I’ve long since understood the plight of the population that many have wished would leave, because of my years as an English as a Second Language teacher. This book was hard for me to read, but so very important for me to remember to have grace and empathy for those around me that might have struggles that I couldn’t even image. A must read for everyone.

People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry
Come up for air with a lighthearted rom-com by my favorite rom-com author, Emily Henry! People We Meet On Vacation is a sweet story of two best friends, Alex and Poppy that have a tradition of vacationing together until the year when things got awkward. I’m a sucker for any story where friends fall in love, since that’s part of my own story. The characters are engaging, the story is sweet, funny, and takes some unexpected turns. Two best friends, ten summer trips, one last chance to fall in love. Everyone one I’ve leant this book out to has loved it as much as I did.

Emily Henry also wrote Beach Read (5 stars, totally recommend!) and has a new book out called Book Lovers.
